Elementary II
(Ages 9-12 years)
This three year curriculum cycle builds on the foundations of Elementary I with a transition into fully abstract thinking. At this age, children are experiencing the desire to know more of “how” and “why”; to meet these educational needs, the curriculum is based on continuous acquisition of the basics of mathematics, language, science, and social studies but with more focus on digging deeper into the complexities of each subject.
Montessori education recognizes that this is the stage when children begin to explore the notion of choice within a moral/ethical context as they seek to identify what makes them unique as individuals. Much of their emotional development takes place at this stage, and lesson plans at the Academy are designed to accommodate such experiences. Children are challenged to be more responsible for social and physical environments. The Montessori environment fosters learning self discipline and respect, while also increasing their understanding of relationships with others.
As our students grow into upper Elementary we plan to confirm a program to accommodate them.
